BALTIMORE-The General Services Administration is applying its popular Request for Information process in Baltimore for the first time. The agency is seeking information on how to exchange the Metro West Federal facility for construction and repair services on other federal facilities. The building, located in the city's CBD, will be vacant in 2014.
The Metro West Facility, located at 300 N. Greene St., is a 1.1 million square foot facility constructed in 1980 that sits on 11 acres of land. It consists of two buildings connected by a two-story wing.
The RFI process is a new way of leveraging GSA's exchange authority. It has used it to solicit ideas for the FBI building in Washington, DC, as well as Federal Triangle South and in other markets. This is the first time it is being used in Baltimore, a GSA spokesman tells GlobeSt.com.
Specifically, the RFI is the first step in a process in which the government gets input from stakeholders on how to dispose of a property via an exchange, perhaps for necessary improvements in other buildings.
The RFI, which will be posted on the GSA site FedBizOpps.gov, FBO.gov and will open on August 8. The real estate development community will have 45 days to provide input. GSA will also host an industry day on August 29 in the near future on the exchange.
