DURHAM, NC-Syngenta is expanding its agrobiotechnology operations at Research Triangle Park here with a new $94-million investment.
The initiative by the Switzerland-based company to expand its crop-protection and seed-development operations was announced on Tuesday by North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory and Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker. The firm, which will develop new laboratory and office facilities at RTP, will be receiving an incentive grant of nearly $3 million from the state of North Carolina.
“North Carolina has its roots in agriculture and we've become one of the top states for hi-tech agribusiness research and production,” said Gov. McCrory. “The growth of Syngenta is an example to others of the strong talent pool and attractive quality of life that characterizes the Research Triangle.”
Syngenta, which already employs 1,300 people in the state, will create 150 new jobs with the latest expansion project by the end of 2018. Syngenta and its legacy companies have had a presence in North Carolina since 1973. The company established operations at RTP in 1984. See story in the Triangle Business Journal.
