WASHINGTON, DC-The Board of the D.C. Housing Authority on Wednesday unanimously approved the selection of a team that will be charged with redeveloping the crime-ridden Barry Farm public housing development.
The board selected non-profit Preservation of Affordable Housing headquartered in Boston and A&R Development of Baltimore for the task to turn around one of the most violent and drug-infested sections in the District. The development team will convert the existing Barry Farm into a mixed-income neighborhood that will include new public housing units for existing residents, according to the Washington Post.
POAH and A&R have experience in the DC area. POAH has developed the Garfield Hill Apartments here and A&R has been involved in a number of development projects, including one on East Capitol Street that will include a Wal-Mart store. See story in the Washington Post.
