CHICAGO-Developer John O'Donnell has revised his plan for a 53-story office tower on the Chicago River's west bank to include a park, a public amphitheater and a riverwalk.
The revisions were made to quell criticism from Chicago Alderman Brendan Reilly that the earlier version lacked public amenities.
O'Donnell, a former executive with Chicago-based development firm John Buck Co., said after a community meeting on the project earlier this week that was hosted by Ald. Reilly, “We've essentially capitulated to everything he wanted.”
In December, O'Donnell acquired a portion of the development site at 150 N. Riverside Plaza for $12.5 million, according to Crain's Chicago Business. In addition to obtaining zoning approvals, O'Donnell also must purchase a city-owned parcel adjacent to property he already owns. He envisions construction on the 1.2-million-square-foot tower to begin in mid-2014. See story in Crain's Chicago Business.
