RIDGEWOOD, NJ-The Planning Board here will likely decide the fate of Valley Hospital's ambitious expansion plan by this fall. The proposal, which would nearly double the size of the facility, has some saying the project will forever change the character of the town.

At previous public hearings on the proposal, some residents opposed to the plan cited traffic concerns and other issues that they say will affect their quality of life, according to The Record.

The plan calls for the 451-room hospital to grow 77% — from 562,000 square feet to 995,000 square feet, adding three beds and converting all rooms to private rooms.

"For Valley to be able to provide the quality care that our community depends upon, we need to modernize our campus," says hospital spokesperson Megan Fraser. "The need is driven by new ways of delivering care and new facility standards." See story in The Record.
