WASHINGTON, DC-The sale of the Washington Post newspaper to Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos will allow the storied newspaper to stay put at its current headquarters at 15th Street NW for at least two years.
The terms of the $250-million sales agreement would allow the Washington Post to lease space at 1150 15th St. NW and two adjacent buildings for two years with two extension options of six months each, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The Washington Post Co. has undertaken a search for a new 300,000-square-foot headquarters in the DC area. The requirement calls for the headquarters space to be ready for occupancy between 2015 to 2017. A spokesman for the newspaper states the search continues, but it will be up to Bezos to decide whether those relocation plans will move forward. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
