WASHINGTON, DC-The big news that had the media buzzing on Monday was the sale of the Washington Post to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. However, the deal leaves open the question for many in the local real estate industry—where will the new owner house the newspaper's headquarters?

Prior to the sale, the Washington Post engaged consultant JM Zell Partners, which gave developers a June 14 deadline to propose headquarters locations. It will be up to Bezos to decide if the newspaper will select one of the proposals submitted earlier this summer.

Among the proposals under consideration include a plan by First Potomac Realty Trust that would have the Washington Post headquarters as part of its mixed-use plan that would also include apartments and retail at First and L Streets NE. Other proposals in the competition for the Washington Post requirement include Akridge's plan to house the newspaper at its planned 704,000-square-foot proposed mixed-use project near Nationals Park; and Skanska's 900,000-square-foot mixed-use project to be built at 88 M St. NE. For information on other proposals in the running, see story and photo gallery in the Washington Post.
