TAMPA, FL-The Tampa City Council granted rezoning approvals for the construction of two separate high-rise apartment towers that will add 700 units to the downtown district.
The council granted initial approval for the Residences at Riverwalk, a 36-story, 380-unit project by developer Phillip Smith. The plan also includes a 620-space parking garage and 10,000 square feet of shops and restaurants on the property's first floor. A final council vote is scheduled for Aug. 22, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
The Council also granted final approval for Atlanta-based the Novare Group's SkyHouse Channelside development in the Channel District of the city. The plan calls for a 320-unit tower that will rise 275 feet on a 1.5-acre site east of 11th Street. The project, which is expected to commence construction next month, also will feature 6,500-square feet of retail and a six-story parking garage. See story in the Tampa Bay Times.
