ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ-Stung from Friday's court ruling that upheld LG Electronics' plan to build a new headquarters here, opponents on Saturday vowed they would appeal the court decision.

New Jersey State Superior Court Judge Alexander H. Carver III upheld the variance granted to LG Electronics in February 2012 by the Englewood Cliffs Board of Adjustment. The variance allows LG to build a 143-foot-tower along the Palisades at 111 Sylvan Ave. here. Opponents say the headquarters building would rise 80 feet above the tree line, would be four times higher than the borough's building limit, and would obstruct views of the Palisades.

Angelo Morresi, an attorney for the coalition opposing LG's headquarters project, said the zoning board did not justify the height exemption and that his group would go to the state Appellate Division to overturn Judge Carver's ruling, according to the Record.

"The expectations of the people is still the zoning laws and the zoning heights are to be respected," Morresi said. See story in the Record.
