ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ-A group led by US Congressman Eliot Engel, along with New York State Senator Jeffrey D. Klein and New York State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz say they plan to lobby heavily against the planned LG headquarters project here.
At a press conference the politicians, whose districts all include the Bronx, say they plan to ask New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to request New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to get involved in the dispute that centers over the height of the new headquarters that some say will block views of the Palisades.
Rep. Engel says if that does not work, the group would file a friend of the court brief in support of any appeal filed against last week's ruling by a New Jersey Superior Court Judge that cleared the way for the project to begin construction, according to The Record. Congressman Engel also said that opponents might call for a national boycott of LG products as a means to get LG to reconsider its headquarters design.
John Taylor, LG's vice president for public affairs, commented, “We are not concerned about threats of an appeal. The company is not deterred by these voices from New York,” adding that construction on the new headquarters would begin later this year. See story in The Record.
