CHARLOTTE, NC-The city of Charlotte and the developers behind a planned film studio at the shuttered Eastland Mall here require another six months of work to iron out details of the project.

The Charlotte City Council's Economic Development Committee approved a proposal to extend the memorandum of understanding on the project on Thursday, according to the Charlotte Business Journal. Studio Charlotte, led by local film producer Bert Hesse, is the lone firm out of three original suitors for the redevelopment of the Eastland Mall.

The Eastland Mall opened in 1975 and closed three years ago. The city of Charlotte took control of the 80-acre site in 2011 that includes the 1.2 million-square-foot shopping center. Taxpayers spent $13 million to acquire the property. See story in the Charlotte Business Journal.
