PHILADELPHIA-A civil complaint filed on Thursday alleges that the Salvation Army and the demolition site owner next door were warned of dangerous conditions at the site that eventually led to the building collapse here that killed six and injured 14 on June 5.
Attorney Robert Mongeluzzi, who represents seven victims in the civil case, said during a news conference on Thursday that STB Investments, the demolition site owner and "the Salvation Army were playing a dangerous game of chicken, hurtling toward demolishing the building without a proper plan in place, neither of them willing to blink.”
The suit filed on Thursday makes 11 civil actions filed in connection with the building collapse at 22nd and Market streets, according to the Inquirer. Theodore M. Schear, an attorney defending the contractor whose demolition crew is accused of causing the collapse, asked a judge earlier in the week to halt civil lawsuits in connection with the case until a grand jury decides criminal liability in the case.
