TAMPA-The Tampa Port Authority announced on Monday that it signed a letter of intent with CSX Transportation to develop an on-dock rail service connection to the Midwest.

The service, operated by CSX, is “Green Express” and when completed will feature two weekly dedicated express trains between Tampa and the Chicago/Kingsburg, IN market area within 56 hours. The Green Express train will serve a mix of refrigerated and dry products, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal. CSX and Tampa Port Authority officials say the service will be online by the end of this year.

The Green Express initiative in Tampa project will involve the construction of an approximately 75,000-square-foot refrigerated warehouse near the port's container terminal on Hooker's Point. See story in the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
