SHAKOPEE, MN-A $60-million project by fast-growing Internet company Shutterfly Inc. to build a new plant at the Dean Lakes business park here got a shot in the arm on Tuesday when Scott County commissioners approved a nine-year tax abatement.
With key incentives in place, officials with the Redwood City, CA-based firm say they are finalizing plans for the new plant project. Construction is expected to begin next month, with occupancy slated for next summer, according to the Star-Tribune.
Shutterfly plans to create 329 full-time jobs in Shakopee over the next two to five years. In addition, a little over 200 people would work on a seasonal basis, according to city documents. Shutterfly is a manufacturer and digital retailer of digital photo and paper products.
Gretchen Sloan, a spokeswoman for Shutterfly, states in response to the Scott County commissioners' vote, “We are pleased with the support from city and state officials and look forward to finalizing our plans so we can break ground and bring hundreds of jobs to Shakopee.”
Economic incentives to land the project now total approximately $3 million from the city, county and state.
“We are close to the end of the process,” said Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke. “This is just extraordinary news for Shakopee, Scott County and the greater (Minneapolis-St. Paul) area.” See story in the Star-Tribune.
