NEW YORK CITY-The New York City Planning Commission approved a plan by Related Co. and Sterling Equities to build a 1.4-million-square-foot retail mall near Citi Field.
The project is part of a planned $3-billion redevelopment of an industrial section that includes many auto body repair shops in the Willets Point section of Queens. The 13-member panel overwhelmingly approved the project, which now must be voted on by the full City Council in the next 50 days, according to the New York Daily News.
“Willets Point is on its way to becoming remediated and ultimately becoming an active and inviting destination,” Commission Chairwoman Amanda Burden says.
The mall to be built on Citi Field's parking lot will feature approximately 200 stores, restaurants, a movie theater and other attractions. See story in the New York Daily News.
