SAN ANTONIO-Industry veteran Jim Hime is joining USAA Real Estate Co. as the locally based company's new CFO, effective Sept. 1. Hime is coming off three years as CFO of the real estate and infrastructure department at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
“I could not be more pleased that Jim has agreed to join our team,” says Len O'Donnell, USAA Real Estate's CEO. “He is widely respected throughout our industry and, as our business continues to expand globally, his vast and diverse background will greatly enhance our capabilities, and will enable us to serve our investors more effectively.”
During his three-year stint with the ADIA, Hime was responsible for the legal, tax, and liquidity management requirements of the real estate department, including management of all of ADIA's existing and new debt arrangements. He also oversaw monitoring treasury and cash balances across the portfolio.
Before joining ADIA, Hime was with the Lionstone Group, a privately-owned real estate investment firm, and before that was co-founder and managing director of Hawkeye Partners, a real estate private equity firm, and served as SVP and head of capital markets at Hines Interests. Predating Hime's CRE career was his 20 years at law firm Baker & Botts, where he became a partner and was responsible for opening the firm's New York City office.
Hime is the second industry veteran to join USAA Real Estate in the past month. In late July, Jeffrey Fastov came aboard as senior principal after most recently running Oasis Real Estate Partners, and prior to that holding senior CRE positions with Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs. Fastov is in charge of the CRE loan platform that USAA Real Estate and Square Mile Capital Management LLC have launched, a venture that is expected to generate as much as $1 billion in originations by the end of 2014.
