CHARLOTTE, NC-Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. announced on Monday it plans to embark on a $50-million expansion of its Carowinds amusement park here.

The expansion over the next three years will create 285 new jobs and will involve new rides, attractions, better food offerings and possibly a larger water-park area, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.

“The continued growth in the Charlotte market presents a unique opportunity for our Carowinds amusement park, which we believe is ready for record-breaking attractions,” states Richard Zimmerman, Cedar Fair's chief operating officer. Cedar Fair owns and operates five hotels and 11 amusement parks in nine states and in the city of Toronto. See story in the Charlotte Business Journal.
