NEW YORK CITY-Nordstrom has paid $102.5 million for the site of its planned flagship store in midtown on West 57th Street.

The Seattle-based retailer will anchor Extell Development's residential tower at 225 West 57th St. and will occupy the first seven floors of the planned 88-story high-rise. Nordstrom owners Erik and Peter Nordstrom paid $102.5 for the land under their planned New York City flagship store, according to the New York Post.

The Extell building will rise to 1,550 feet, according to property records, making it among the tallest buildings in the world, exceeding the height of the Empire State Building, which stands at 1,454 feet.

According to documents filed last week, the Nordstrom store, which is scheduled to open in 2018, will total 175,000 square feet. In 2012, Nordstrom stated the store would be 285,000 square feet in size. See story in the New York Post.
