WASHINGTON, DC-The controversial proposal dubbed the “Walmart bill” will be on DC Mayor Vincent Gray's desk by this Friday.

The “Large Retailer Accountability Act” that would require large retailers, such as Walmart, to pay its workers employees $12.50 an hour instead of DC's minimum wage of $8.25 has received support from a host of civic organizations. However, the bill could have some fallout with large retailers in the district.

For example, Walmart officials have says that if Mayor Gray signs the legislation it will cancel plans for at least three of its six planned stores in and around the district. The canceled store projects would be located at Skyland Town Center, Capitol Gateway and on New York Avenue, according to wjla.com.

Once the mayor officially receives the bill, he has 10 business days to sign, veto, or send the bill back to the Council. See story at wjla.com.
