HOUSTON-Provident Realty Advisors Inc. completed a deal Thursday to redevelop the historic Texaco Building.  The Dallas firm plans to convert the nearly 100-year-old downtown building as a luxury high-rise, and construction could begin within weeks.

A report in today's Houston Business Journal noted that once the developer gains approval, initial construction will begin, and that will ultimately add 34,000 to 41,000 square feet to the structure at 1111 Rusk. That could take place within two to four weeks, the developer told the Journal. The first units could be available as early as late next year, and completion would be be in about 24 months from ground-breaking, in time for a centennial celebration.

The 13-story Greek revival was designed by prominent New York architectural firm Warren & Wetmore, and completed in 1915. It has been empty for more than 25 years.
