SAVANNAH, GA-Medient Studios broke ground on Thursday on its $90-million movie studio project here in Effingham County.
The firm had been negotiating on a site in New York State, according to Medient CEO Manu Kumaran, when a New York State economic development official said, “I hope Georgia is not on your list.” Kumaran said his reply was: “Now it is.”
Kumaran visited the Effingham Industrial Development Authority's 1,600 acres at Interstate 16 and Old River Road last October and later opted for the South Georgia location, according to the Savannah Morning News.
The $90 million for phase one of the project includes $10 million to lease the land, $40 million for equipment and $40 million for buildings. Phase one will include roads, utilities, a suspension bridge entrance, reception building, leaf amphitheater, main studio and outdoor shooting area. See story in the Savannah Morning News.
