WASHINGTON, DC-Target is looking to open its second store in Washington, DC region. The national retailer has its sites set on a property in downtown Washington, DC at the corner of 11th and E streets.

The Washington Post reports that Target is studying space that was mainly occupied by ESPN Zone. The retailer already operates a store in Columbia Heights.

However, there is a potential roadblock to the deal. The potential downtown DC store location at 555 12th St. NW is on the market or sale.

Michael R. Zacharia of CBRE who represents the building's current owner Manulife Financial, says that he has been working for months on a deal to bring Target to the property.

However, with sales discussions now underway, those talks have been put on hold. “We've really stopped discussions with everyone pending new ownership,” Zacharia adds. “We're kind of in a holding pattern.” See story in the Washington Post.
