NEW YORK CITY-A spokesman for the developer of a proposed 1,350-foot luxury condo tower on West 57th Street that is now in the approval process hopes to break ground early next year on the project that will rise 100 feet higher than the Empire State Building.

JDS Development Group and Property Markets Group submitted plans for their “skinny, ultra-luxury condo tower” to the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission last month.

The lot is a mere 43-feet wide, according to city records, and many of the floors would be 4,000 to 5,000 square feet in size, Vishaan Chakrabarti, a partner at SHoP Architects, which designed the tower, tells the Wall Street Journal.

"It's really going to enhance the skyline," Chakrabarti adds. He says the tower would be clad with bronze-and-white terra-cotta stripes. See story in the Wall Street Journal.
