WASHINGTON, DC-As his firm begins work on the redevelopment of the Old Post Office here with the General Services Administration, New York City-based developer Donald Trump says he is mulling whether to acquire the FBI headquarters building on Pennsylvania Ave.
The FBI is looking to relocate to new space elsewhere in the DC region and the GSA is looking to trade the J. Edgar Hoover Building for a new FBI headquarters. The GSA has begun seeking interest from developers and investors, and is expected to look for a private sector partner later this year, according to the Washington Post.
“We'll be watching the FBI as to what's going to happen,” Trump said. “Whether or not we will bid on it, we may, we may not. Now if we do as good a job as we will do with (the Old Post Office), people may ask us about it.”
The timing of the requirement could be advantageous for his firm, the Trump Organization, since it expects to complete the Old Post Office hotel near the end of 2015 or beginning of 2016, which would be around the time the FBI project could be ready to go. See story in the Washington Post.
