NEW YORK CITY-The potential fallout from the revelation of the 1986 sale of the World Trade Center name by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to the World Trade Centers Association for just $10 may result in the two agencies ending their long-standing relationship.
David Samson, chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said on Thursday that he instructed a group of other commissioners and agency attorneys to review the 1986 transaction to determine if "there are grounds to terminate" the authority's relationship with the World Trade Centers Association.
Samson added that the commissioners and attorneys would also decided whether to hand the matter over to the agency's Inspector General's office. The actions came as a result of a series of stories in The Record regarding the 1986 WTC naming sale. See story in The Record.
