ARLINGTON, VA-Skanska's 1776 Wilson Blvd. has secured that the developer says is a first for the submarket: LEED v3 Platinum certification for New Construction-Core and Shell. Skanska's office space, which is located in 1776 Wilson Blvd., earned LEED Platinum for Commercial Interiors.
While green building and the race for green credentials may have diminished somewhat during the recession in much of the area--that has not been the case in this particular submarket, which has remained highly competitive. The Rosslyn submarket in particular has seen little to no vacancy and has commanded the highest asking rates. LEED certification is a welcome differentiator in such a competitive landscape. "Arlington is a vibrant and progressive market," Rob Ward, executive vice president for Skanska, says in a prepared statement. "Tenants are looking for energy efficient spaces that provide their employees with a healthy environment,” said Rob Ward, executive vice president for Skanska.
Skanska acquired the site in May 2010. It funded the development costs for the five-story project itself. The 134,750-square foot building delivered in November 2012. Tenants include the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, CRDF Global, Evermay Wealth Management, 100 Montaditos and Pier 1 Imports.
