DETROIT-Meridian Health Plan's $111-million consolidation plan may result in the construction of a new 16-story office building downtown across from the Compuware headquarters.
The Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority board is expected to consider on Wednesday tax incentives valued at $27 million for the new 320,000-square-foot building to be developed by Schostak Bros. & Co.
Approximately 620 of Meridian employees in Detroit would consolidate into the building by 2017, according to Crain's Chicago Business. Employees would be shifted from Meridian offices at One Kennedy Square, 777 Woodward Ave., and the at 1001 Woodward Ave.
Meridian officials say the firm expects to occupy at least 60% of the tower in four years and then grow to eventually fill the property completely with 1,050 employees.
"We are committed to having our corporate headquarters in Detroit. We want to invest in Detroit because we believe in Detroit," says Sean Cotton, secretary and general counsel for Meridian Health Plan and president of pharmacy benefits company Meridian Rx LLC. See story in Crain's Detroit Business.
