ARLINGTON, VA-A proposal for a 22-story high rise and four other office buildings was approved on Saturday by the Arlington County Board.

In a unanimous vote, the board approved Vornado/Charles E. Smith's PenPlace project that calls for as much as 1.8 million square feet of commercial space. The now vacant land is one of the largest undeveloped parcels close to downtown Washington, according to the Associated Press.

The development plan also includes 50,000 square feet of retail space, a 300-room hotel and a streetcar maintenance facility. Vornado plans to build a streetcar connection between Columbia Pike and a Crystal City streetcar line to link the Arlington corridors. See story at WTOP.com.
