FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-The Broward County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously on Tuesday to begin negotiations with HKS Architects of Dallas to draw up a new convention center master plan.

The county has previously tried three times to expand its convention center and add a hotel to the complex. Thus far, the county has spent between $5 million to $6 million on the project to date, according to the Sun-Sentinel. The city's convention center is located off 17th Street on Eisenhower Boulevard.

Commissioners selected HKS over a bid by Baltimore-based RTKL Associates Inc. Once a contract is agreed to, the proposal must be approved by the full County Commission. See story in the Sun-Sentinel.
