WASHINGTON, DC-The District of Columbia is looking to make changes to the federal height restrictions on DC buildings.
The District released a report on Tuesday that stated that changes to the height restrictions are “necessary, desirable and in both the federal and local interest.” The report came out just two weeks after the National Planning Commission recommended leaving the federal Height of Buildings Act as is.
“The District's draft recommendations for changing the federal Height of Buildings Act will enable the city to create a supply of developable space to accommodate future growth and avoid upward price pressures on existing supply that could push out the very residents the District needs,” the report stated. “The creation of any additional capacity through increased heights would occur through rigorous public review and approval processes with District and federal participation.” See story in the Washington Business Journal.
