NEW YORK CITY-Despite economic prognostications of good times ahead, a Bloomberg National Poll suggests that many Americans believe economic conditions will remain the same as last year.
The poll, conducted by Selzer & Co. of Des Moines, IA, reports that just 27% expect the recovery to be more robust, a falloff from the 39% who expected a healthier recovery back in June. The poll also reports that 44% of respondents expect the economy to remain about the same, while 28% believe it will weaken.
The US economy has grown at an average rate of 2.1% since the recession's end in June 2009 , a full percentage point below the 50-year average, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The housing market's recovery also took a hit in the poll, Just 42% say the housing market will improve, down from 51% in June. See story at Bloomberg.com.
