PHOENIX-Crisis Nursery of Phoenix will be the beneficiary of a special community service project to be undertaken by members of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and its local chapter in conjunction with the group's upcoming National Fall Leadership Conference to be held in Scottsdale.
IREM, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors, is an 80-year-old international association of real estate managers serving all property types who focus on maximizing the value of investment real estate.
Crisis Nursery is one of several truly worthwhile local organizations that were considered for the community service project, according to IREM 2013 president Elizabeth (Beth) Machen.
“We selected the shelter because of the particularly inspiring and resultful work it does to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect by strengthening families and addressing the social, psychological and development needs of the children served,” said Machen. “As well, what our members will be doing on site aligns well with some of the day-to-day work they oversee.”
The service project is slated for Oct. 18, from 12:30 to 5 p.m., with IREM Members' undertaking activities that include fall landscaping (planting of trees, shrubs, and flowers), painting, and general cleaning. IREM participants also will host an afternoon party for the nursery's current residents. According to Machen, funds are being solicited to underwrite the cost of supplies (paint, landscaping materials, tools, etc.), and in-kind contributions are being sought.
Crisis Nursery, the Valley's longest-serving children shelter, works to help break the cycle of child abuse and neglect for more than 1,000 children annually in Greater Phoenix through its Children Shelter, FACES – Early Childhood Education and Foster Care programs.
IREM's Greater Phoenix Chapter 47 was formed in 1964. The chapter has upwards of 280 members and includes top-tier real estate managers and management firms in the area.
The Institute of Real Estate Management is an international community of real estate managers dedicated to ethical business practices, maximizing the value of investment real estate, and promoting superior management through education and information sharing. An affiliate of the National Association of REALTORS, IREM is the home for all industry professionals connected to real estate management – and the only organization serving both the multi-family and commercial sectors.
