RIVERDALE PARK, MD-The County Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to permit Washington, DC-based Calvin Cafritz Enterprises to proceed with its $225-million project here that will include a new Whole Foods store.
The developer can now seek permits for plots and grading for the 37-acre site in Prince George's County. Company officials say the groundbreaking could take place as early as this fall with an opening possible by early 2015, according to the Washington Post.
The Whole Foods store will be built on a parcel on Route 1 north of East-West Highway. The development will also include approximately 1,000 units of multifamily housing, a 120-room hotel, 22,000 square feet of office space and some 168,000 square feet of retail space.
“With these approvals, we are hopeful to begin construction later this fall,” developer Jane Cafritz stated. “We are excited about bringing the first Whole Foods Market store to Prince George's County.” See story in the Washington Post.
