PURCHASE, NY-Gov. Andrew Cuomo reached across the aisle to select former Gov. George Pataki to co-chair a new Tax Relief Commission, aimed at reducing the state's high property tax burden.
Former State Comptroller H. Carl McCall, a Democrat, was named the other co-chair for the commission that is scheduled to make recommendations in January that can be possibly incorporated into Cuomo's budget proposal that will be considered by the State Legislature next year. The formation of the commission was announced at a briefing on Wednesday at Manhattanville College.
“From a tax point of view, the number one priority, in my opinion, is to do more on property taxes,” Cuomo said. “Remember, we already passed the 2% property tax cap, which was a radical, progressive step. We now want to do even more.” See story in the New York Times.
