PHILADELPHIA-Executives with Philadelphia Energy Solutions were joined by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter at the ribbon cutting for a new oil-by-rail yard.
The new facility also provides high-speed unloading of railcars permitting the transfer of 160,000 barrels of crude a day from North Dakota, according to the Inquirer.
The event on Wednesday drew approximately 1,000 workers at the former Sunoco Inc. oil refinery. The program also marked the one-year anniversary that Carlyle Group acquired the refinery.
"We've accomplished a great deal," Philadelphia Energy Solutions CEO Philip Rinaldi said, noting that the firm, which operates as a division of the partnership between The Carlyle Group and Sunoco Inc., has invested more than $250 million in the refinery and added 100 new permanent jobs. "We were able to swell the ranks of the United Steel Workers representation by more than 10%, and we think that's not bad in the first year,” he said. See story in The Inquirer.
