WHITE OAK, MD-The ambitious White Oak Science Gateway Master Plan has been sent back to the Montgomery ounty Planning Board by the County Council because it feels the proposed road and transportation infrastructure are inadequate to handle the traffic the development would generate.
The master plan, approved by the Planning Board on Sept. 19, calls for 4 million square feet of new commercial and residential development in its first phase and 11 million square feet overall.
Council members fear the project could worsen already difficult traffic conditions along Route 29 and New Hampshire Avenue, much of which comes from Howard and Prince George's counties, according to the Washington Post.
“The draft plan is not in balance between land use and transportation,” Council President Nancy Navarro informed Planning Board Chair Francoise Carrier in a letter earlier this week,
The plan includes LifeSci Village, a joint venture of Montgomery County and private developer Percontee. See story in the Washington Post.
