BAL HARBOUR, FL-The owner of the Bal Harbour Shops here has submitted redevelopment plans to the village requesting the addition of 250,000 square feet of retail space to the luxury shopping center.

Whitman Family Development, owners of Bal Harbour Shops, submitted two sets of redevelopment plans to the village on Wednesday. The firm plans to add 100,000 square feet of department store space, including enlarging the existing Neiman Marcus store, as well as adding a third anchor to the development, according to the Miami Herald.

“The objective of the plan is to respond to the needs of the market and to make sure Bal Harbour Shops remains as compelling a destination tomorrow as it has for the last 50 years,” says Matthew Whitman Lazenby, president and chief executive of Whitman Family Development.

The plans also call for a luxury theater, two new parking garages, and the construction of a new church for its neighbor, the Church by the Sea. See story in the Miami Herald.
