WASHINGTON, DC-The Graduate School USA has put its ambitious plans to double its size by opening a new campus at the district's southwest waterfront on the shelf.

The school confirms that its plan, part of a $1.5-billion redevelopment of the waterfront district, has been shelved, according to the Washington Post. The Graduate School USA was to be a major tenant in the office component of The Wharf redevelopment project. The first phase, which was at one time scheduled to begin construction in early 2013, is to include 225,000-square-feet of office space, 180,000-square feet of retail, 790 residential units, two hotels and 1,325 parking spaces.

The school was planning on occupying approximately 190,000 square feet of office space there. A school official says the plan was abandoned due to government cutbacks and budget uncertainty. See story in the Washington Post.
