MATTHEWS, NC-Novant Health Inc. of Winston-Salem has filed for state regulatory approval for a $20.4-million expansion of its Novant Health Matthews Medical Center here.

Specifically, the plan would involve the construction of more than 26,000 square feet of additional space for the hospital's women's center, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.

If approved, the expansion would facilitate more births and increase surgical offerings at the hospital, according to Roland Bibeau, president of Novant Health Matthews.

“I believe there's a strong need,” he says. “It's always nice to continue to grow and make every attempt to meet the community's needs.”

Novant recently completed a $19-million project that added a fifth floor to the hospital's bed tower. See story in the Charlotte Business Journal.
