BALTIMORE-Amazon confirmed on Tuesday that it intends to develop a 1-million-square-foot fulfillment center at the former General Motors assembly plant in Southeast Baltimore.

The online retailer says it will create more than 1,000 full-time jobs at the warehouse once it is operational, according to the Baltimore Business Journal. The center will be part of the Chesapeake Commerce Center on Holabird Avenue being developed by Duke Realty Corp. of Indianapolis.

The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development will provide Amazon with a $1.25-million conditional loan for the project. The company is also eligible for a number of tax credits. Amazon did not divulge when it expects construction to begin on the fulfillment center. See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
