WASHINGTON, DC-The Committee of 100 for the Federal City is blasting changes to the Height Act by the DC Office of Planning that would allow for taller buildings downtown, characterizing the proposals as an all out war on the district being an "iconic horizontal city."

"We want economic prosperity to spread around the city and not just to the high cost areas where the Office of Planning expects taller buildings," the committee states in its response to DC Office of Planning's Height Act proposal.

The DC Office of Planning believes its changes will provide an ample supply of developable space to accommodate future growth, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The Committee of 100 contends iconic views will be destroyed, the tourism industry will be damaged, and the supply of affordable housing will fall. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
