SPRINGFIELD, IL-A new bill unveiled on Thursday would grant Archer Daniels increased incentives to keep its global headquarters in the state of Illinois.

However, the food processing and commodities trading giant would have to create 500 jobs in Decatur to take advantage of the enhanced perks. The company's headquarters operations are currently based in Decatur.

“Job creation in one part of the state at the expense of another is not a step forward for the state of Illinois,” says State Sen. Andy Manar, who drafted the latest legislation. “So I sought to engage local officials as well as proponents of the previous legislation that was filed in the House and tried to strike a balance.”

Reports indicate that Chicago is ADM's preferred location for its global headquarters, although the firm has held discussions with officials in Atlanta, Minneapolis and Dallas. Sen. Manar did not have a cost estimate on the ADM incentive package. See story in the Chicago Tribune.
