MORRISTOWN, NJ-“Was the project completed within budget and on schedule?” Historically, this is the most relevant question relating to how we measure a projects success. Over the past 10 years during one of the hardest economic times in our country's history this question has become even more relevant. Projects continue to become more complex, with added technology, sustainable initiatives, rising construction costs, as well as navigating the regulatory process. Never has it been more important to have an unbiased advocate managing your interest on any given project to ensure project success.
Most individuals looking to invest in the financial markets would likely seek the advice of a financial advisor to ensure a higher rate of return on their investment. Project management is no different. The right project manager will manage your project to ensure a higher rate of project success.
Below are five key reasons a project manager is necessary when looking at complex projects.
Cost Control
The first question typically asked at the conception of any project is “What will it Cost?” Retaining the services of a project manager will provide you with an unbiased, detailed understanding of what a project will cost early in the process. The right project manager will also continue to manage your project budget and cost throughout the project.
Schedule
The follow up question to “What will it Cost?” is typically “How long will it take?” Assembling a comprehensive schedule early in the process with an understanding of lead times, permitting process and construction scheduling is important. The project schedule establishes the overall project expectations for everyone involved.
Time Management
What is your time worth? Every project requires direct involvement of internal staff members. Having a project manager leading your project will reduce the amount of time you and your staff will need to dedicate to the project. Ultimately this will allow you and your team to continue to be productive in your daily job.
Industry Knowledge
Assembling the right team for a project provides a roadway for success. Your project manager should have extensive industry contacts and a knowledge of firms that are most qualified to accomplish your project.
Leadership & Expertise
Some of the most successful sports teams in history have had proven leadership with great experience. Your project deserves nothing less than the same. Your project manager should provide the leadership and guidance along with experience to manage your project through any hurdle that presents itself.
