GEORGETOWN, MD-A plan to tear down a majority of the West Heating plant here in order to build luxury Four Seasons condos was certainly not embraced by Georgetown residents on Monday.

At a meeting of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission, which oversees the area, commission members and residents expressed their desire to save the building from demolition.

ANC members doubted the developer's assessment that the property behind the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown was deteriorated to the extent that it must be torn down, according to the Washington Business Journal. The commission recommended to the Old Georgetown Board the city fund an independent study to look at the building's structural integrity and determine if demolition is the best option.

"Our strong preference … is to preserve a building when we can, so that's always the starting point here," ANC Chairman Ron Lewis said. "I think we need a broader understanding of why these are insurmountable problems." See story in the Washington Business Journal.
