ANNAPOLIS, MD-The Maryland Board of Public Works in a vote on Wednesday approved a plan to provide some funding for a $2.2-billion light rail line in the Washington, DC suburbs.
The vote now allows the plan supported by Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley to proceed. The project calls for the state to contract with a private sector partner in a public-private partnership (p3) to build a 16-mile Purple Line from New Carrollton to Bethesda.
The state DOT plans to identify qualified vendors and put the project out to bid. See story in the Baltimore Sun.
