NEW YORK CITY-Equity One Inc., selected in an RFP last year to develop a shopping center in the Bronx, said Wednesday afternoon it has landed three national retailers for the project. TJ Maxx, Sports Authority and Aldi's have all signed on to Broadway Plaza, scheduled to open in the fall of 2014.
TJ Maxx will occupy approximately 24,000 square feet and Sports Authority will occupy approximately 30,000 square feet on the second level of the 115,000-square-foot shopping center now under construction by North Miami Beach, FL-based Equity One. Aldi's will anchor the first level, occupying approximately 18,000 square feet.
“We are thrilled with the response national tenants have had to this project,” says Equity One CEO Jeff Olson. “Broadway Plaza will help anchor what is already a thriving retail corridor and we look forward to its opening a year from now. This development project reflects our strategy to invest in urban infill areas where the demand for quality retail services far exceeds the supply.”
Equity One was selected by the New York City Economic Development Corp. in the spring of 2012 to buy and develop the site. Located at West 230th Street and Broadway near the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx, the site formerly was a city-owned parking lot. According to Equity One's website, it can draw on a population of more than 900,000 within a five-mile radius.
