JERSEY CITY, NJ-Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop says the city will file a $400 million lawsuit against the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey this week to aggressively pursue tax money lost due to long-standing and unfair tax agreements.

The PA has refused to even discuss new tax agreements on some of the 32 properties it owns in Jersey City, says Fulop. The mayor, who disclosed the details of the lawsuit in an interview with the Jersey Journal, said the city is losing about $1.3 million in tax revenue every year.

“We're not going to get bullied around by them,” Fulop said about the PA. “We're going to do whatever we can to make them treat Jersey City fairly.”

The City Council is set to approve hiring the law firm Weiner Lesniak to represent it in the suit at its Wednesday night meeting. The suit would be filed as soon as possible after the vote.
