DORAL, FL-County commissioners are expected to vote on Wednesday on a proposal critical to a luxury mall/water-themed project development from the ownership of the Aventura Mall and Fontainebleau hotel.
Turnberry Associates is asking county commissioners to agree to move the county's Urban Development Boundary, which limits urban expansion into the western and southern areas of the county, in order to make way for the Doral Crossings project.
The project, if approved, would involve a luxury shopping mall, an IMAX theater and a five-acre water park, according to the Miami Herald.
The proposal to relocate the Urban Development Boundary has met its share of opposition, including from the local community council, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, and the county's planning department and planning board. See story in the Miami Herald.
