SAND CITY, CA-Local officials have delayed approval of a coastal permit and environmental report for a proposed for a beachfront resort, in order to resolve issues involving public beach access.
The council was ready Tuesday to certify an environmental report and approve a coastal permit for The Collection at Monterey Bay, one of two beachfront resorts long planned in Sand City, a coastal city near Monterey. According to a local newspaper questions about public access caused the delay, so that a meeting could be help involving the developer aond the Coastal Commission.
King Ventures of San Luis Obispo hopes to build the 26-acre, 340-unit project in two phases. The first phases would be 105 time-share units. The second would be a 235-resort hotel and conference center with a restaurant and spa. The proposal started as a proposed redevelopment project in the early 2000s. The city owns part of the site. King Ventures owns part. The project is expected to cost more than $70 million.
