SOFIA, Bulgaria-Bulgaria now has a new trade association representing commercial office building owners and managers.

Tishman International's Sofia Airport Center, a mixed-use business complex with nearly 2 million square feet of office and logistics space, has partnered with a few select other large commercial building owners, to establish the Association of Commercial Building Owners, an officially registered Bulgarian trade association. The new organization will be based in Sofia, the nation's capitol.

Similar to its American counterpart, The Building Owners and Managers Association or BOMA, the new association's mission is to advance the interests of association members and the entire commercial real estate industry through advocacy, education, research, standards and information. The organization's immediate objectives include establishment of best market practices and stimulation of development of the sector.

“Like BOMA in the U.S., the Association of Commercial Building Owners in Bulgaria will actively explore and advocate for new regulations and legislative solutions that promote and support commercial real estate development and implementation of management best practices by Bulgarian building owners, said Alan Levy, chairman and CEO of Tishman International Companies, a long-time board member of BOMA.

“The new association will serve as a legal representative to state and local authorities,” explained Olga Stoichkova, leasing manager at Tishman International's Sofia Airport Center and a founding member and member of the new Bulgarian Association's board of directors.

She also noted that this association will provide member companies information on market developments, legislative changes and regulatory requirements, as well as initiate legislative changes that advance the interests of members and grows and attracts location of businesses in Bulgaria.

Other Association board members are: European Trade Center representative Tanya Kosseva-Boshova, who was appointed Chairman of the Board; Adina Welsh, Expo 2000 Real Estate; Miroslav Tanchev, Mega Park; and Mavropolus Prodromos, Real Estates BG.
